Menu Builder Interface

Many of the features of the Menu Builder are identical to those found in the Site Builder, so we won't go into much detail about them here.

If you have gone through the section on the Site Builder, you should already have a good understanding of the Menu Builder's interface. Following are explanations of the features that haven't been discussed yet.

View Code Tab
The View Code tab shows you the true HTML and Flash code used to create the Flash menu page. This may not make much sense to you if you're new to Flash programming, but seasoned programmers will find the View Code tab a handy way to edit the code directly.

Define Menu Bar
This is where you create your Flash menus. Each menu you see in the Preview is listed in the Define Menu Bar area. When you click a menu name on the bar, you are given three choices for editing the menu: Add SubMenu, Edit, and Delete. And if the menu has sub-menus, you'll see options for editing and deleting each sub-menu. Clicking the Add New Menu button allows you to add another menu to the list. These features are described in more detail in the following section, Building Menus.

Target Window for Links
This box allows you to specify a target window/frame for the links on your menu. This function is particularly useful if you are using your Flash menu bar in an HTML frame, and you want your content to display in another frame when your menu links are clicked. For example, if you have created an HTML frame named "mainFrame," in which you want all your content to display, you would enter "mainFrame" in the Target Window for Links box. Entering "_blank" in this box will cause your content to load in a new blank window every time a menu option is clicked. A good understanding of HTML will help you use this option. You can find many useful HTML references on the Web.
